Juneteenth's Home Community Engagement Sessions
Be part of an important conversation about Galveston's history and the future of Juneteenth during the Juneteenth's Home Community Engagement Sessions on October 24 and 25, 2026, at Ball High School.
As the birthplace of Juneteenth, Galveston holds a significant place in American history. The Juneteenth's Home initiative aims to honor that legacy by establishing Galveston as a national center for Juneteenth storytelling, education, and cultural preservation. These public sessions offer an opportunity for residents, visitors, and community members to share their perspectives and help shape the project's future.
Led by cultural planning and museum design experts from SmithGroup and Sources Cultural Resources Management, the sessions will introduce the planning team and invite participants to share their ideas, experiences, and hopes for Juneteenth's Home. Attendees can participate in open house discussions, meet the project team, and provide feedback during guided presentations.
The sessions will take place at Ball High School's cafeteria, located at 4115 Avenue O in Galveston, on the following dates:
Saturday, October 24 | 10 AM to 2 PM: Open house and meet-and-greet opportunities will take place from 10 to 11 AM and 1 to 2 PM. A presentation and community feedback session will be held from 11:30 AM to 1 PM.
Sunday, October 25 | 2 to 6 PM: Open house and meet-and-greet opportunities will take place from 2 to 3 PM and 5 to 6 PM. A presentation and community feedback session will be held from 3:30 to 5 PM.
These gatherings mark the beginning of a year-long planning process focused on preserving Juneteenth's history and creating meaningful opportunities for future generations to connect with its legacy.
The sessions are open to the public, and all are welcome to attend. Visit juneteenthshome.com for additional information and project updates.
