Airport Transportation

Have questions about getting to The Port of Galveston for your upcoming cruise? We're here to answer your questions!

Proximity to Houston

Located about an hour south of Houston and connected to the mainland by a causeway, Galveston is as easy to get to as an island can be. Some of the ways to travel to, from, or on the island include Uber or Lyft, shuttle, limousine, rental car or personal vehicle.

Arrival by Air

The closest international airport to Galveston is William P Hobby Airport. Located on the southern side of Houston, it’s only about 40 miles – and less than an hour if traffic cooperates – from the terminal to the beach.

George Bush Intercontinental Airport is the largest airport in Houston. It’s about 70 miles and 80+ minutes from Galveston.

Don't forget about Scholes International Airport (GLS) right here on Galveston Island! As a general aviation reliever airport, GLS serves as a valuable asset in meeting the needs of businesses, private pilots, and aviation enthusiasts.

Houston to Galveston Cruise Transportation Options

Rideshare - Uber & Lyft

For most travelers, rideshare services such as Uber and Lyft offer the most convenient transportation option for reaching Galveston. You can simply request a ride upon your arrival at the airport, providing a quick and straightforward means to reach the island. Additionally, this is often one of the most cost-effective choices, especially if you're not traveling alone.

Independent Shuttles

Recognizing a demand in the market, several shuttle services have emerged to offer transportation between the Houston airports and the Galveston cruise port. Although alternative choices may be more budget-friendly for most individuals, these shuttles can become an attractive option when traveling with a larger group.

Other Services (Car Rentals/ Private Cars)

Car Rentals

Looking for the flexibility to explore Galveston independently? Opting for a car rental is a smart choice. With a rental vehicle, you'll have constant access to transportation, including a convenient way to travel from the airport to the Galveston cruise port.

Private Cars

Private car services provide an additional transportation alternative. In the area, you can find numerous private car and limo services willing to offer pick-up and drop-off services anywhere in the region, including the cruise port. While these services offer a stylish mode of travel, they may not always be the most economical choice for reaching the cruise ship.
