Galveston has multiple cruise terminals, and not all parking lots are equally close to each one. Terminals 25 and 28 are the legacy terminals with the most parking options nearby. When comparing parking options, confirm which terminal your cruise line uses and verify how close — and whether a shuttle is included.

The Galveston Wharves is negotiating with Royal Caribbean Group to develop a proposed fifth cruise terminal at Pier 14, expanding the Port of Galveston’s growing cruise operations. Once negotiations are complete, a draft operating agreement outlining development, financing, construction and operations will be presented to the Galveston Wharves Board of Trustees for approval.
Pricing varies based on the lot, whether you choose covered or uncovered parking, your cruise length, and whether you reserve online in advance. As a general ballpark, uncovered parking at independent lots currently runs roughly $75 to $160 for a seven-day cruise, while covered parking at select facilities can run from around $100 to $200 or more for the same period. Official Port of Galveston lots have their own pricing structure by terminal and lot type. Booking online in advance usually saves money compared to drive-up rates.
Note that the City of Galveston charges an additional cruise parking tax on vehicles parked longer than 48 hours — this is typically factored into quoted prices but worth confirming when you book.
Yes, several options exist. The Port of Galveston publishes monthly promo codes on its Facebook page. Booking online in advance typically saves money versus drive-up rates. Some private lots offer discount codes through cruise blogs and affiliate sites. Veterans discounts are available at select facilities but may require in-person verification on the day of parking.
This depends on the lot. At lots with shuttle service, attendants typically help load luggage onto the shuttle for transport to the terminal, where cruise line porters take over. At walk-to-terminal lots, you handle your own luggage from the parking space to the ship check-in area. A practical tip used by many travelers: drop your passengers and luggage curbside at the terminal first, then drive to park and walk or shuttle back. This avoids managing heavy bags during the walk or shuttle process. Label every bag with your name and cell phone number before you leave home — luggage mix-ups do happen.
Reservations are strongly recommended, especially for sailings during peak season, holidays, and busy weekends. Popular lots — particularly covered spaces and walk-to-terminal options — sell out. Booking in advance also typically gets you a lower rate than paying at the gate. Most lots, including the official Port of Galveston lots, allow online reservations. Some private lots can also be booked over the phone.
Cancellation policies differ by operator. The official Port of Galveston lots allow cancellations up to 24 hours before your sailing date with no penalty. Several private lots require 48 hours notice for a full refund. After your departure date, refunds are generally not available. Review the cancellation terms before booking, especially if your cruise plans could change.
Most lots begin accepting cruise passengers starting around 9:00 AM. Final shuttle departures are typically mid-afternoon — check with your specific lot since cutoff times vary. Cruise terminals assign check-in windows, and you should plan to be at the terminal 30 to 45 minutes before your assigned time. If you are using a shuttle lot, add time for the parking check-in process and shuttle wait. Holiday sailings and large ships fill up lots faster — arriving closer to 10:00 AM to noon tends to balance availability with reasonable shuttle wait times. Arriving too early may mean waiting for the lot to clear from the previous cruise.
Most lots — both official port lots and established private facilities — offer fenced perimeters, 24-hour video surveillance, and on-site security or attendants. Official Port of Galveston lots are patrolled by Port of Galveston police. Several independent lots offer covered, gated indoor parking which some travelers prefer. As with any large parking facility, the standard advice applies: do not leave valuables visible in your vehicle. If vehicle security is a top priority, covered or indoor parking with on-site security is the most common recommendation in traveler feedback.
Not every parking lot provides shuttle service. Some lots close to the terminals are designed as walk-in facilities — you park and walk a few minutes to your ship. Economy lots farther from the terminals typically offer free shuttle service that transports you and your luggage to the terminal and picks you up on return. If a lot provides a shuttle, confirm whether luggage handling is included and whether there are vehicle passenger limits that could trigger surcharges. Shuttle wait times during peak embarkation windows can add time to your morning, so factor that in when you arrive.
ADA parking spaces are available at both official Port of Galveston lots and select private facilities. At official port lots, accessible spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are not separately reservable. Several independent lots offer accessible parking and wheelchair-accessible shuttle ramps. If accessibility is a priority, contact the lot in advance to confirm space availability and confirm that shuttle vehicles are equipped for your needs.
Many lots accommodate oversized vehicles including large trucks, SUVs, and lifted vehicles, but policies and fees vary. The official Port of Galveston economy lots accommodate vehicles of all sizes. Several independent lots also welcome oversized vehicles but may charge an additional fee. Covered garages have height and width clearances — confirm with the specific facility before booking if your vehicle is taller than 9 to 11 feet or wider than 9 feet. Trailers and RVs should contact the lot directly to confirm availability before reserving.
Several Galveston hotels offer packages that combine a one-night pre-cruise stay with extended parking for the duration of your trip, along with shuttle transfers to the port. This can be a cost-effective alternative to standalone parking, especially for cruises longer than five days. Packages vary widely in what they include — some cover shuttle transfers, some do not. Free overnight hotel parking does not always mean free extended cruise parking, so read the fine print. Visit our cruise-friendly hotels page for properties that offer these packages.
