Most cruises depart between 3 and 5 PM. If you're cruising from Galveston, it's easy to turn a few extra hours or an overnight stay into part of the trip.
Whether you're arriving early, staying the night before, or adding time after your sailing, here are a few ways to make it worth it.
The Cruise Stop is about a five-minute walk from the terminals and offers short-term luggage storage for a small fee. Drop your bags, then explore. It works coming off the ship just as well as before you board.
Plan to arrive mid-afternoon and check into a hotel near the port. Most are just a few minutes from the terminals, so getting to your ship the next day is straightforward. If your room isn’t ready, leave your bags at the front desk and head out. Once you’re settled, head out for dinner nearby. You don’t need to go far.
Head back toward Downtown or the Seawall for outdoor dining and keep the evening easy. Two nights gives you more time to see Galveston Island beyond the port.
