Artist Boat to Host World Ocean Day Festival at Galveston's East Beach

Hosted by Artist Boat at the Galveston Island Park Board-managed East Beach, the event will take place ahead of the official World Ocean Day observance on June 8 and feature educational presentations, hands-on activities and opportunities for attendees to connect with the Gulf Coast environment.

A featured event is the Women in Science lecture presented by Dr. Shannon Guillot-Wright, Associate Professor at UTHealth School of Public Health and Deputy Director of the Southwest Center for Occupational and Environmental Health. Her research focuses on environmental determinants of health, occupational health equity and community resilience, and her work has been featured by NPR, The New York Times, TIME Magazine and Texas Monthly.

Festival attendees can also enjoy Artist Boat's "Beautify the Bucket" contest, environmental education exhibits, interactive activities and opportunities to learn more about protecting coastal and marine ecosystems.

"Artist Boat has created a unique event that combines education, creativity and conservation in a way that makes environmental stewardship accessible to everyone," said Elizabeth Walla, environmental programs manager for the Galveston Island Park Board. "Hosting the festival at East Beach and welcoming Dr. Shannon Guillot-Wright as part of our Women in Coastal Science series allows us to showcase the many ways people can connect with and care for our coastal environment."

The event highlights the important role Galveston's beaches and coastal habitats play in supporting wildlife, recreation and environmental education. As the host venue, East Beach offers a fitting backdrop for a day focused on ocean conservation and community stewardship.
