New Tourism Wayfinding Signs Begin Installation Across Galveston Island
GALVESTON ISLAND, TEXAS (Sep. 17, 2026) – Installation is underway on the first phase of Galveston Island’s new tourism wayfinding program, bringing new signage to 214 locations across the island to improve navigation, help circulate vehicle and pedestrian traffic and better connect visitors with destinations.
Developed by Corbin Design, a third-party firm specializing in wayfinding planning and signage design, the program establishes five areas to help visitors orient themselves and navigate the island: the Port District, East End District, Historic Downtown District, Seawall District and West End District.
“Visitors may come to Galveston with one destination in mind without realizing how much there is to experience just a few blocks away,” said Tony Lyle, executive director of Visit Galveston, a division of the Galveston Park Board. “By establishing distinct districts and making it easier to navigate between them, this program will help visitors better understand the island, explore more of Galveston and discover places they may not have otherwise found.”
Phase 1 includes multiple types and sizes of signs for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians, with many of the 214 locations featuring more than one sign. In walkable areas such as historic downtown and the Seawall, pedestrian kiosks will highlight nearby attractions and points of interest and provide walking distances.
“This program was intentionally designed to help better circulate vehicle and pedestrian traffic throughout the island,” said Marty Miles, CEO of the Galveston Park Board. “By helping people understand how our districts connect and directing them to different routes and destinations, we can encourage movement beyond our busiest areas and help ease congestion while making Galveston easier to navigate.”
Designed specifically for Galveston, the signage incorporates architectural, nautical and marine-life elements inspired by the island and built for its coastal environment. The project also includes removing some existing signage to reduce visual clutter.
Installation will continue until the end of September and the Galveston Park Board will celebrate Phase 1 of the tourism wayfinding program with a ribbon-cutting ceremony to be announced at a later date.
