Galveston Island Set a World Record
Rising together, 125 years later.
On September 8, 1900, the Great Storm claimed more than 8,000 lives and forever changed Galveston. In its aftermath, the Seawall was built to safeguard the island, a remarkable engineering feat that has stood for over a century.
On Saturday, September 6, we honored that history by setting a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for the longest walkway. To commemorate, over 6,000 people from Galveston and beyond came to stand along the Seawall between 23rd and 61st Streets in remembrance of those lost and in celebration of the resilience that defines our community. Thank you for taking the time to mark this momentous occasion with us.
