"Looking Back" Brown Bag Lecture Series at Nia Cultural Center
Join us for our October informative lecture series featuring David Dumas, who will discuss “The Murder of Emmett Till.” Born in Galveston, Texas, David B. Dumas graduated from Central High School in 1965, attended Texas Southern University, Rice University, and the University of Texas at Dallas, and earned a Ph.D. in geophysics. An amateur historian and photographer, he has spent the past 42 years visiting and photographing Civil War sites. While documenting “The Mississippi Railroad Campaign,” General Grant’s first attempt to take Vicksburg, he stayed in Grenada, Mississippi, where he discovered two nearby historical markers related to Emmett Till’s murder. He then began a detailed study of the case to learn what happened, identify the relevant locations, and photograph each site. Bring your lunch and your appetite for history and learning.
