Galveston Naval Museum
Located on Pelican Island, the Galveston Naval Museum offers an immersive experience where you can walk in and on historic WWII vessels. Open 7 days a week, the museum is home to two iconic ships:
- USS Cavalla: Climb aboard the legendary submarine that avenged Pearl Harbor by sinking the Japanese aircraft carrier Shokaku. Explore its narrow passageways, torpedo rooms, and imagine life beneath the waves.
- USS Stewart: Discover the only preserved Edsall-class destroyer escort in the U.S. Wander its decks, step into crew quarters, and learn about its vital role in protecting convoys and battling enemies.
The museum also preserves other naval artifacts, including:
- The sail of the USS Tautog (SSN-639), showcasing Cold War submarine technology.
- The conning tower of the USS Carp (SS-338), offering a glimpse into WWII submarine design.
Step into history and experience the stories of bravery and innovation firsthand.
