Celebrate Galveston Museum Day Jan. 28-29

Visitors to Galveston will be able to start their new year off with a glimpse into the Island’s storied past during Galveston Museum Day taking place Jan. 27-28, 2024. The event will feature discounted admission to many of Galveston’s museums.

During Museum Day, visitors can learn about Galveston’s place as one of the wealthiest cities in the United States during the late 1800s, the powerful families who helped build the city, its significance as the birthplace of Juneteenth and the importance of the industries that keep Galveston thriving.

A bonus exhibition is the Washed Ashore exhibit that will remain in Galveston through March 31. Island visitors can view 5 sculptures crafted from plastic trash collected from beaches. The large, stunning pieces take the shapes of marine animals from sharks to jellyfish. It aims to educate the public about the importance of keeping the earth’s waterways clean. The self-guided tour is free. For information about the sculptures and where they can be found, head to www.visitgalveston.com
