ABOUT THE 1859 ASHTON VILLA | Ashton Villa, built in 1859 in Galveston, Texas, is one of the first brick structures in the state and a notable example of Italianate architecture. Constructed by businessman James Moreau Brown, the grand three-story home features ornate cast-iron verandas, stately columns, and intricate interior details. The villa served as a symbol of wealth and resilience, surviving both the American Civil War and the devastating 1900 Galveston hurricane. Today, Ashton Villa stands as a historic landmark, offering insight into Galveston's rich cultural and architectural heritage.
ABOUT THE GALVESTON HISTORIC HOMES TOUR | Galveston Historical Foundation opens the doors to Galveston’s architectural history through public tours of privately owned homes during its annual Galveston Historic Homes Tour. Large, small, and everything in between, the 2026 tour will have something for everyone! In addition to the tours, the annual event features numerous special events, allowing guests unique experiences in many of the tour homes and historic sites across the island.
