proved the perfect combination to prepare Sharon Batiste Gillins to be a genealogy
educator.
Over the past 30 years, she has helped countless novices start on a
successful family history research journey and has also been a frequent presenter at
regional conferences and national genealogical institutes.
Her teaching emphasizes
strategies that can be used to effectively research African American families in a wide
variety of record groups.
Her greatest delight is in helping families identify their first
emancipated ancestors and finds it especially satisfying here in Galveston, the
birthplace of Juneteenth.
