Karankawa Exhibit at The Bryan Museum: Opening Reception
Step onto the Texas Gulf Coast—before the maps, before the myths—and meet the Karankawa.
Join us for a special sneak preview of Karankawa: Voices from the Texas Gulf Coast, a powerful new exhibition rooted in endurance, movement, and memory. For centuries, the Karankawa people lived along this coast, navigating seasons, trade routes, and shifting alliances with a deep understanding of land and water. Though history once tried to write them out, their descendants carried forward language, knowledge, and cultural identity.
Developed in partnership with Karankawa descendants, this exhibition brings that story forward. Through reconstructed pottery, immersive structures, original artwork, and an interactive language station, you’ll experience both the historical world of the Karankawa and the living community reclaiming its voice today.
Their story is still being told. Come hear it for yourself.
