African American Museum
Tucked into the heart of District One, Galveston’s African American Museum shares powerful stories of resilience, leadership, and community. Curated by Clarence Josey, the museum showcases photographs and artifacts honoring local trailblazers who helped shape the island’s history. Highlights include a rare collection of yearbooks, such as a 1946 edition from Central High School, the first high school for African American students in Texas.
This intimate museum invites visitors to explore Galveston’s rich Black heritage and its lasting impact on the island and beyond.
