Join Visit Galveston to Honor Our Island's Resilience and the 125th Anniversary of The Great Storm

Galveston Island Seawall Up For World Record

The Galveston Seawall, built in the aftermath of the 1900 Storm, has protected the island for more than a century. On Saturday, September 6, we will attempt to set a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title or the longest walkway, right here on the Seawall.

We’re inviting 8,125 people to form a human chain along the Seawall to honor the more than 8,000 lives lost and mark the 125th anniversary of the Great Storm. Together, we will stand as a living tribute to resilience, remembrance, and community pride.


✅ What to Know:

  • September 6

  • 8:45 a.m. – Line-up along the Seawall

  • 9:00 a.m. – Photo opportunity and drone flyover

  • 9:30 a.m. – Ceremony at the Great Storm Statue with remarks by the Mayor and other community leaders

  • All ages welcome

  • Free to participate, registration required

  • Event takes place rain or shine

  • Wear comfortable shoes and bring water

  • Details on check-in locations and times will be emailed closer to the event
