About the Event

What started in 1997 as a small, family-friendly gathering in downtown Galveston has grown into one of the island’s premier spring events. Over the years, the Yaga’s Children’s Fund has expanded significantly, raising over $1.9 million for children’s charities across Galveston County.

By 2002, the cook-off had drawn 23 competing teams and more than 3,000 attendees, leading to a move to Pier 21. As crowds continued to grow, the event relocated once again in 2023 to Moody Gardens Resort, ensuring even more space for teams, guests, and festivities.

Beyond the smoke and sizzle, this cook-off makes a lasting impact on the community by supporting local children’s organizations. Each year, a dedicated volunteer board secures funding for programs that nurture the moral, psychological, intellectual, vocational, and physical development of Galveston’s youth.
