Emancipation Gospel Celebration
Come join the NIA Cultural Center for the 5th Annual Emancipation Gospel Celebration Concert featuring Four-time GRAMMY® Award-winner and multiple Stellar and GMA Dove Award winner Karen Clark Sheard at the historic 1894 Grand Opera House in Galveston, Texas, the birthplace of Juneteenth.
Galveston will celebrate the 161st Juneteenth Anniversary next summer with events recognizing Black culture's heritage and impact in America.
Karen Clark Sheard, award-winning gospel singer and member of the legendary Clark Sisters will headline the 5th Annual event. Known for her unique multi-octave vocal range, she has inspired artists across genres, including Beyoncé.
Also performing will be Award-winning artist Byron Cage, known as the “Prince of Praise,” who made his mark on gospel music as a respected minister of music and through a series of chart-topping live albums and radio singles. His now-classic recording of “The Presence of the Lord Is Here,” introduced the world to the contemporary worship song. Cage is credited as one of the artists who helped introduce and popularize Praise and Worship music in the African American church.
The event will open with a performance from The Brown Four, a talented sibling group hailing from Memphis, Tennessee. This ensemble features Daelin (14), Daniya (13), Deanna (11), and Davion Brown (10). Their passion for music took root early in their lives, with
performances at home, in their church, and on local playgrounds.
The celebration will also honor individuals for “Champions of Freedom Award,” presented by Sue Johnson, Executive Director for NIA Cultural Center.
Tickets start at just $35, with proceeds supporting the NIA Cultural Center’s ongoing efforts to empower and improve the community through art, culture, education, and engagement in the birthplace of Juneteenth.
