American Revival at The Grand 1894 Opera House

American Revival, a traveling celebration of music, storytelling, and community, will bring together internationally celebrated artists Arrested Development, Nicholas Ma, Yo-Yo Ma, Jon Muq, TERRIER, and Alfre Woodard, alongside Galveston artists and community leaders, and other special guests.

Part concert, part storytelling gathering, and part celebration of Galveston itself, American Revival is built around a simple belief: what we share is deeper than what divides us. “American Revival is about creating spaces where people can see, hear, and feel each other through a shared cultural experience,” said Nicholas Ma. “We know that the work of rebuilding trust and belonging in America will happen locally, county by county, and we know that the work requires joy.” Traveling to communities across the country, each Revival is created with the people who live there. Previous Revivals have taken place in Alabama, Arkansas, Massachusetts, and Tennessee.

This is the first American Revival in Texas. At a time when our country can feel more divided than ever, American Revival offers a different kind of invitation: Come listen. Come sing. Come meet a neighbor you may not know. Come remember what connects us. “Galveston has always been a place where different histories, cultures, and creative traditions come together,” said Maureen Patton, Executive Director of The Grand 1894 Opera House and a core partner on American Revival - Galveston. “We’re excited for American Revival to celebrate that spirit and the extraordinary people who make this island what it is.”

Doors open at 6:00 PM, with the program beginning at 7:00 PM. Tickets are on sale now at tickets.thegrand.com. Additionally, the Revival will also feature a Festival of Helpers on Sunday, September 27 at the Galveston Farmer’s Market (3304 Market St., Galveston) from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM CT, which is being produced in collaboration with Arts Downtown GTX and Groundswell. The Festival of Helpers will feature Galveston-based nonprofit and community organizations offering volunteer opportunities and pop-up performances by local artists. The event is free and open to the public.
