Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig Museum
Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig Museum
A retired offshore drilling rig on Pier 21 exploring the history, technology, and people behind Gulf Coast energy production.
The Ocean Star Museum introduces visitors to offshore oil and gas operations through interactive exhibits and preserved rig spaces. Displays explain drilling processes, marine geology, and safety systems while highlighting the role offshore energy has played in the Gulf of Mexico and Texas coastal communities.
The Ocean Star drilling rig was built in 1969 and later converted into a museum that opened in 1997. Operated by the Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig and Museum Trust, the site now serves as the Gulf of Mexico Offshore Energy Center on Galveston Harbor.
