Galveston Railroad Museum
Galveston Railroad Museum
All aboard for a journey through history! The Galveston Railroad Museum invites visitors to step back into the golden age of rail travel. Explore a fascinating collection of restored locomotives, model train layouts, and interactive exhibits that bring Texas’ railroading legacy to life. From vintage railcars to hands-on simulators, the museum offers a living history experience for all ages.
Housed in the historic Galveston Union Station—built in 1913—the museum has weathered many chapters of island life, including the closure of the last passenger service in 1967 and the devastating floods of Hurricane Ike in 2008. Thanks to major restoration efforts, the museum thrives today with daily openings, new exhibits, and community programs designed to inspire future generations.
Visitors can climb aboard real trains, ring the bell in the Garden of Steam, and even test their skills as an engineer in the interactive simulator. The Galveston Railroad Museum isn’t just a glimpse into the past—it’s an adventure into the heart of American transportation history.
The museum is operated by a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization and is proudly supported through memberships, grants, events, and community donations.
