Visit Galveston presents The Art of Soccer

Visit Galveston is proud to present The Art of Soccer exhibition for this historic moment in partnership with FIFA World Cup 26 Houston™. Five local artists within Galveston's community painted 36-inch fiberglass soccer ball that each represents part of Galveston's identity. Each of the soccer balls will be displayed all over Galveston for viewing during FIFA World Cup 26 Houston™.

Art of Soccer Artists

Ted Ellis is a passionate man. He is passionate about his family… passionate about his heritage and passionate about his art. Just ask him and he proudly declares, “I paint Subjects that are representative of the many facets of American life, particularly, African-American culture and history, as I know it. I like to think of myself as a creative historian. I was put here to record history…all aspects of American culture and heritage. My sole purpose has always been to educate through my art.”

A professional graphic artist, Kathy also creates fine art in a variety of mediums. Since early childhood, she has painted on canvas, and multiple surfaces (including furniture, bathroom tiles and a toilet seat!), produced in-home murals, created drawings in pencil, pastels, charcoal, pen and ink, and crafted and sewed, and just generally kept creating! She exhibits her work at Mock and More gallery on Postoffice Street in the historic downtown Galveston Cultural Arts District. She has painted three of Galveston’s Turtles About Town sculptures; and now is one of five artists to paint a FIFA Soccer Ball sculpture for Visit Galveston.

Keightlyn is a wife, mother of three, and an artist with a passion for capturing the "heart-stuff." When she is not navigating baseball games, dance classes and my professional life, you can usually find her splashing color onto anything that stays still long enough. Recently, she has been making posters celebrating locals' special occasions and sports gear. She loves helping cherished memories like the first day school or birthdays get the vibrant, soulful spotlight they deserve!

Catherine Stroud is an award-winning contemporary artist based in Galveston, Texas. She grew up in the Woodlands, studied art at Vanderbilt University and Parsons School of Design, and continued her education in Southern France. Her work blends expressive color and lyrical lines to create a balance of emotional depth and confident, intentional design. Her art often reflects a connection to coastal life and the vibrant creative culture of her community.

Justin Lopez is a Galveston-based mural artist known for bold, detailed portraits that blend Gulf Coast landscapes and wildlife. Inspired by the region’s rich ecology, he developed a distinct style that reflects the colors and patterns of local plants and animals. His work enhances public spaces while celebrating the natural beauty that continues to shape his art.
