Take Interstate 45 South to Galveston. Take the 61st Street exit and turn right (south). Stay on 61st Street to Seawall Boulevard. Turn left (east) at Seawall Boulevard. The Galveston Island Convention Center is located at 56th Street and Seawall Boulevard on the left (north) side. Underground complimentary parking is available.
Houston's largest airport, George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), joined the Houston Airport System in June 1969. Bush Intercontinental is located approximately 23 miles north of downtown Houston, near the Sam Houston Tollway (Beltway 8 north)
The airport is operated and maintained by the City of Houston Department of Aviation. The Houston Airport System functions as an enterprise fund and does not burden the local tax base for airport operations, maintenance or capital improvements. Over 185 domestic and international destinations are accessible through nonstop or direct flights from IAH. An expanding portfolio of air routes and destinations promise to keep Bush Intercontinental Airport as the South Central United States' air transportation gateway to the world. Directions from Bush Intercontinental to Galveston (70 Miles):
Begin at George Bush Intercontinental Airport on Terminal Rd S and go East for 0.6 miles. Bear left and go Southeast for 300 feet. Turn left on Greens Rd and go East for 2.4 miles. Turn right on Eastex Fwy, US-59, US-59 N and go South for 0.6 miles. Bear left on the ramp and go South for 1000 feet. Continue on Eastex Fwy, US-59 and go South for 14 miles. Bear right on the ramp at the sign reading "I-45 to Galveston / Dallas" and go South for 0.6 miles. Continue on I-45 and go Southeast for 45 miles to Galveston Island. Once on the island, exit 61 Street and turn right for 1.7 miles, left on Seawall Boulevard for .03 miles – convention center on left.
Houston's second-largest airport, Hobby Airport (HOU), has now been serving the Houston community for more than 60 years. Hobby Airport is located approximately seven miles south of downtown Houston, near I-45/Gulf Freeway, the major highway heading from the City to NASA and Galveston Island. William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) is presently served by five (5) scheduled passenger airlines. In 2006, airline carriers performed handled 234,709 operations and enplaned and deplaned more than 8.5 million passengers. Hobby Airport is the largest hub airport for Southwest Airlines. Numerous other carriers also offer domestic air service through Hobby Airport. All of Hobby's airlines are located in its convenient terminal building. Begin at William P Hobby on Lockheed Ave and go North for 0.2 miles. Turn left on Convair St and go West for 200 feet. Turn right on Telephone Rd, TX-35 and go North for 0.3 miles. Turn right on Airport Blvd and go East for 2.4 miles. Turn right on Gulf Fwy and go Southeast for 0.6 miles. Continue on ramp at sign reading "I-45 S" and go Southeast for 0.3 miles. Continue on I-45 and go Southeast for 35 miles to Galveston Island. Once on the island, exit 61 Street and turn right for 1.7 miles, left on Seawall Boulevard for .03 miles – convention center on left.
