Visiting Galveston: COVID-19 Update

The health, safety, well-being and enjoyment of Galveston’s visitors and residents is our top priority.

The State of Texas and the City of Galveston has enacted protocols aimed at stemming the spread of COVID-19. Please do your part to keep yourself – and others – well.

General Information

The Galveston Convention & Visitors Bureau and its industry partners are closely monitoring the evolving Coronavirus situation and are following the advice of health officials and government agencies.

  • There are currently no travel restrictions or mandatory quarantine requirements for travelers entering Texas
  • Masks and face coverings are required when in public buildings and outdoors when six feet of social distancing from others is not possible
  • Employees, contractors and volunteers must be trained on appropriate cleaning, disinfecting and hand hygiene
  • Contactless payment is encouraged. Where not available, contact should be minimized

Stay
Lodging

  • The most current information pertaining to COVID-19 and hotels and lodges in Texas can be found here.
  • Hotels may accommodate overnight guests at full capacity. Hotel operations for overnight accommodations are considered essential operations under the Department of Homeland Security’s “Guidance on Essential Critical Infrastructure Workers.”

  • Lodging patrons and employees must wear face coverings in public areas wherever it is not feasible to maintain 6 feet of social distancing from another individual not in the same household
  • Indoor areas of hotel bars and other alcoholic beverage service outlets in hotels can operate at up to 75 percent maximum capacity
  • Outdoor areas of hotel bars and other outdoor alcoholic beverage service outlets in hotels can operate at up to 100 percent capacity
  • Pools and other water features can operate at up to 75% maximum capacity and subject to physical distancing requirements and face coverings where physical distancing is not feasible
  • Indoor meetings and other indoor gatherings may occur at 75% capacity and are subject to social distancing requirements
  • Spa, massage, personal care services, and beauty services can operate, provided the facility maintains at least six feet of distancing between operating workstations.
  • Galveston’s hotel and lodging properties have enacted enhanced cleaning and sanitation practices in accordance with federal, state and industry standards

  • Attractions and museums may operate at 75% capacity
  • Attraction and museum patrons and employees must wear face coverings wherever it is not feasible to maintain 6 feet of social distancing from another individual not in the same household
  • Attractions and museums are encouraged to utilize remote ticketing options to manage capacity limitations
  • Attractions and museums must disinfect any items that come into contact with visitors. This includes, as much as possible, disinfecting high touch surfaces that comes into contact with guests between exhibits and rides

Beaches

  • Galveston’s beaches are open
  • While at the beach, maintain six feet of distance between your party and others
  • Galveston’s beach park amenities at East Beach and Stewart Beach are closed for the season through March

Restaurants

  • The most current information pertaining to COVID-19 and restaurants in Texas can be found here.
  • Restaurants may operate at 75% capacity
  • Restaurant patrons and employees must wear face coverings wherever it is not feasible to maintain 6 feet of social distancing from another individual not in the same household, except when seated at the bar or at a table
  • Tables should generally be at least 6 feet apart from any part of another table unless the restaurant uses a partition between the tables that is at least 6 feet tall and 6 feet wide.
  • No tables of more than 10 people
  • Unoccupied tables will not have menus, condiments, silverware, flatware, glassware or other traditional tabletop items
  • If a buffet is ordered, restaurant employees serve the food to customers
  • Many of Galveston’s restaurants offer curbside pickup, delivery and takeout services and have increased their outdoor dining capacity

Bars

  • The most current information pertaining to COVID-19 and bars in Texas can be found here.
  • Bars may operate at 50% capacity and must stop serving alcohol at 11pm each day
  • Bar patrons and employees must wear face coverings wherever it is not feasible to maintain 6 feet of social distancing from another individual not in the same household, except when seated at the bar or at a table
  • Tables should generally be at least 6 feet apart from any part of another table unless the bar uses a partition between the tables that is at least 6 feet tall and 6 feet wide.
  • No tables of more than 6 people
  • As recommended buy the bar and nightclub industry, keep dancefloors closed. Activities that enable close human contact are discouraged.

  • Retailers may operate at 75% capacity
  • Retail patrons and employees must wear face coverings wherever it is not feasible to maintain 6 feet of social distancing from another individual not in the same household
  • Retailers are encouraged to consider dedicating a certain period of time each day for only at-risk customers or deliver purchased goods to vehicles to reduce the need for at-risk customers to enter the store

Meetings

  • The most current information regarding Texas COVID-19 mandates for meetings facilities can be found here.
  • There is no limit on the number of individuals who may be outside at your facility, provided they are following proper social distancing guidelines and comply with the outside events protocols
  • The number of customers/patrons inside any indoor facility is limited to 75% of the facility’s total listed occupancy
  • Galveston’s meetings facilities have enacted enhanced cleaning and sanitation practices in accordance with federal, state and industry standards
  • Meeting attendees must wear masks while indoors and maintain six feet of social distance from one another
  • Galveston’s meetings facilities employees have received training in safety and sanitation protocols
